English Language Arts/Reading and Writing
The 6th grade English and Reading curriculum teaches basic skills and competencies in an integrated program that connects all of the language arts. Basic grammar lessons will be interwoven with vocabulary development, literature selections, and composition skills. Study skills and spelling lessons will be an integral part of the overall program.

1. 2 yellow plastic pocket folders with tabs 3. Pencils, erasers, red pens, paper
2. 2 Composition notebooks - no spirals
Classroom Expectations- Welcome to 6th grade Language Arts.
I am excited to have you in my class. I expect that each of you will give
your best effort. I will do my best to work with you so that you are successful this year.
Please do not be afraid to ask questions. I do expect you to come to class
prepared and with your assignments complete. I am here to help you in any way that I
can.
CLASSROOM RULES AND PROCEDURES
1. Come to class on time, be ready to learn
2. Bring all of your materials to class (No one will be permitted to go to their locker
to get forgotten materials)
3. Be in your seat, QUIET, when the bell rings and start bell
work
4. No food, gum or candy in the classroom
5. Stay in your seat unless asked by the teacher to
move
6. Raise your hand. Only one person speaks
at a time.
7. Follow all classroom procedures
8. Have all homework complete
9. ALWAYS PUT YOUR NAME ON YOUR PAPER! No name, No grade!
PROCEDURES:
1. Enter classroom quietly and find your seat
2. Copy homework assignments into your planner from the board
3. Leave your planner out for teacher to check for parent
signature
4. Complete bell work
5. Always have something to be working on.
6. Use the restroom in between classes, at lunch or at Academic assist
7. Pencils need to be sharpened before class
8. Do not get out of your seat to throw trash away
9. Wait for teacher to dismiss you, not the bell
***All marks are erased at the end of the grading period so everyone gets a fresh start
Homework
HOMEWORK is essential for success. The average assignment will be twenty minutes everyday
in the form of reading, writing, and/or studying.
Students must take pride in the way their assignments are presented. Refusal to accept work that is
sloppy or lacking correct format is at the discretion of the teacher. Late homework assignments receive
half credit. Missing homework assignments beyond one day will receive a zero and a working lunch
will assigned to complete the homework. Students must still complete the assignment. Missing assignments
due to illness will be graded according to Louisville Middle School policy. It is expected that ALL
homework will be submitted on time. All homework is posted weekly on the teacher classroom web site.
Grading
Students’ effort, knowledge, and skills will be assessed through a variety of academic benchmarks:
Grading is based on total points. All homework, class work, quizzes, tests, and writing assignments are expected to be corrected and resubmitted immediately upon return. Spelling errors should be corrected in drafts before the final writing piece is submitted for grading.
Absences
If you are absent, you must see the teacher immediately upon your return to get the work that was missed or you may wish to view the teacher website.

- Consequences
Marks will accumulate for all rule infractions. You will need to follow all class rules and procedures to remain mark free. - First Offense: Everyone makes a mistake. Be mindful of the future
- Second Offense: A mini conference will be held with me and the student. A mark will be issued.
- Third Offense: A conference will be held with the student, a second mark will be given, and a phone call or an email will be sent to the parent.
- Fourth Offense: A third mark will be given, a formal referral will be made to the office, and a conference will be held to develop a plan to help the student. The office can issue additional consequences at this time.
- *** To improve classroom learning, a working lunch may be issued when homework is missing to allow students to complete missing work.
